About Caspar David Friedrich
German painter Caspar David Friedrich is known for his pieces featuring landscapes (especially wintery scenes) and contemplative figures. He also included elements of German folklore later in his career.
Friedrich influenced many artists, including Johan Christian Dahl, Arnold Böcklin, Arkhip Kuindzhi, Max Ernst, and Edvard Munch. His painting titled Man and Woman Contemplating the Moon inspired Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot.
